Reinventing video creation with collaborative AI: Why we invested in MITO

Storytelling has always been at the heart of how humans make sense of the world. From myth-making to modern cinema, visual stories shape culture, identity and collective imagination. Today, we are at the beginning of a new creative era: one where artificial intelligence is not just a tool, but a collaborator reshaping how stories are imagined, produced and shared.

Yet, despite the rapid progress of generative AI, professional video creation remains complex, fragmented and expensive. Creators are forced to navigate disjointed tools, crowded UIs, rigid workflows and long production cycles that slow down experimentation and limit creative expression. The opportunity is not simply to make production faster, but to redefine the creative process itself placing collaboration, iteration and creative control at its core. The opportunity is also in enabling millions of new users to express were they could only dream before.

This is the vision that drew us to MITO.

MITO is building a new paradigm for video creation: a collaborative, AI-native environment where filmmakers, brands and creative teams can work together in real time, turning ideas into high-quality visual stories at the speed of thought. By combining cutting-edge generative models with professional-grade creative tools in a single, browser-based canvas, MITO empowers storytellers to focus on what matters most: originality, emotion and vision.

Against this backdrop, we are excited to announce our investment in MITO AI, which has raised $4.5M in pre-seed funding to accelerate the development of its collaborative AI video platform. The round was led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, with participation from Kibo, Kfund, Sequoia and a16z scouts, LifeX, Everywhere, and a group of outstanding angel investors, including several unicorn founders and senior executives from companies such as USV, Roblox and GitHub.

A creative industry at an inflection point

Video has become the dominant language of the internet and modern culture. At the same time, AI is dramatically lowering the barriers to creation. However, most existing tools still treat AI as an add-on rather than as a core part of the creative workflow. The result is a growing gap between what technology makes possible and what creators can actually deliver in production environments.

At the center of the MITO experience is an AI copilot that creators can direct to execute specific actions, enabling rapid experimentation without sacrificing consistency or quality. The platform integrates foundational AI models for video, image and audio with the tools professionals already expect, making it possible to iterate faster while staying in full creative control.

Unique expertise grounded in real productions

One of MITO’s strongest differentiators is its team. The founders come from real-world, high-end audiovisual productions, not just from technical or experimental backgrounds. This production DNA is deeply embedded in the product, which is designed around how films, commercials and music videos are actually made. Led by cofounder and CPO Danny Saltaren, National Design Award recipient and former Head of Product Design at two unicorns, the team brings together creative sensibility, product excellence and execution at scale.

As AI democratizes access to professional-quality production, the market for high-end video creation is expanding far beyond traditional studios and agencies. MITO is well positioned to serve independent filmmakers, generative creators, brands and production teams alike. Its community-driven approach, structured around the broader MITO universe, allows the company to scale not just as a software platform, but as a creative ecosystem.

In emerging categories, progress depends on showing, not just telling, what is possible. MITO understands this deeply. Beyond its platform, the company is already operating an AI-powered audiovisual studio and collaborating with leading TV and film production companies. By showcasing real productions and tangible outcomes, MITO is helping define the standards of AI-native filmmaking and shaping expectations for an entire industry.

Looking ahead

MITO’s mission is to unleash human creativity by automating the most tedious aspects of production, giving storytellers the freedom to focus on meaning, craft and imagination. With teams based between Madrid and San Francisco and the support of a strong global investor base, MITO is uniquely positioned to help define the future of collaborative video creation.

At Kfund, we believe MITO is building foundational infrastructure for a new creative era. We are proud to support the team at this early stage and excited to accompany them as they redefine how visual stories come to life.
